Siderophore production by fast and slow growing greengram rhizobia (Bradyrhizobium sp. Vigna) Gupta Alka, Gopal Murali*, Tilak K.V.B.R. Division of Microbiology Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi-110 012, India * Present address: CPCRI, Regional Station, Kayangulam-690 533, India Abstract Under iron-limiting conditions, many bacteria secrete ferric iron-specific ligads, generically termed siderophores, to aid in the sequestering and transport of iron. We report here the production of siderophores by greengram rhizobia (Bradyrhizobium sp. Vigna). Production of siderophores by rhizobia was detected via the chrome azurol S assay, a general test for siderophores which is independent of siderophore structure. Top | |
