Abstract

The coronomaxillary space is that anatomic region that lies medial to the coronoid process and lateral to the maxillary tuberosity. It is bounded anteriorly by the base of the zygomatic process. Its posterior boundary is the pterygomaxillary or hamular notch. Its inferior boundary is the crest of the residual ridge. The coronomaxillary flange of the maxillary denture is that portion of the buccal flange that extends from the zygomatic eminence to the hamular notch. The dental literature has used a variety of terms to describe the distal buccal boundaries of the maxillae. The coronomaxillary space has been suggested as a more consistent descriptive term. This article mainly emphasizes on the role of maxillary distobuccal and mandibular distolingual vestibular space in retention of denture as Special attention is required in this region.
