Abstract The threat of swine flu has put all health care providers on high alert, and dentists and dental practices are no exception. Recent months have seen a rise and spread of the type A influenza virus world wide, India has not escaped from this havoc. On June 11 2009 the swine flu outbreak was upgraded to a Phase 6 Pandemic. With the swine flu deaths being recorded in India now, it is crucial for every citizen to get aware of this disease, its correct symptoms and the right place for treatment. Swine Influenza (swine flu) is a respiratory disease of pigs caused by type A influenza that regularly cause outbreaks of influenza among pigs, and thus most of the human cases of swine flu happen in people who are around pigs. This article is aimed at providing the details about swine flu, its symptoms and the actions thatneed to be initiated to stop the spread of this pandemic and provide an efficient clinical practice guideline for dental professionals.
