Abstract

Demineralization and remineralization have a crucial impact on the hardness and strength of tooth enamel. The battle to keep teeth strong and healthy is dependent upon the balance between demineralization and remineralization. Although natural remineralization is always taking place, but the level of activity varies according to conditions in the mouth. Apart from fluoride which is the best proven remineralizing agent, various calcium phosphate based compounds have recently been designed to supplement and enhance fluoride's ability to restore tooth mineral.
