Abstract

This case report describes two cases of twin mesiodens. First case presents a 13 year old boy with one erupted mesiodens and second impacted mesiodens high up in the palate, impacting the root of the right maxillary central incisor, thus resulting in its rotation. Second case presented a 11-year old boy with palatally erupted mesiodens and one vertically impacted supernumerary tooth, below the nasal floor, near the root of the left maxillary central incisor. The clinical, radiographic appearance and therapeutic considerations are presented. The purpose of this article is to alert the clinician of importance of radiographic localization prior to surgical intervention. As in some instances a labial surgical approach is preferred over the traditional palatal technique. Here in two case reports a labial surgical approach and a classical palatal approach has been utilized which allowed more specific localization of the impacted tooth, greater conservation of alveolar bone and improved access during removal of the mesiodens.
