Abstract Periodontitis is an inflammatory disease of the supporting tissues of the teeth caused by specific microorganisms resulting in progressive destruction of the periodontal ligament and alveolar bone with pocket formation recession or both.Thorough understanding of the etiopathogenesis of periodontal disease has provided the clinicians and researchers with various treatment modalities that range from non-surgical and surgical therapy. There are various natural ways to treat periodontal disease some of which even help in preventing it from occurring. There are various medicinal plantsl herbs which can be used in different forms and preparations for the treatment of periodontal diseases. Clinical trials for assessment of safety and efficacy of these herbal remedies are in it infant stage. These herbal remedies are expected to be widely used in future.
