Abstract Objective This study aims at determining the relationship of anterior teeth to their mucolabial reflection, so that it can be used as a guide in determining occlusal vertical dimension. Study Design Impressions were made of the anterior segments of the mouth in 100 subjects (50 males and 50 females) with their teeth in centric occlusion. Measurements were made in each impression to determine the relationship of the maxillary and mandibular mucolabial reflections to their respective anterior teeth. Results The results of this study show that the distance between the maxillary vestibule to the incisal edge of the maxillary central incisor and the tip of the maxillary canine is 19.76mm, 20.84mm; for males and 18.66 mm, 19.44 mm; for females respectively. The distance between the mandibular vestibule to the incisal edge of the mandibular central incisor and the tip of the mandibular canine is 14.84 mm, 16.56 mm; for males and 14.20 mm., 15.44 mm.; for females respectively. Conclusion The findings of this study will be helpful as a guide in establishing the tentative occlusal vertical dimension in the anterior region and preliminary arrangement of artificial anterior teeth. It will also help in establishing the tentative vertical overlap in the central incisor and canine regions. Top Keywords Automix gun, Polyvinylsiloxane impression, Boley's Gauge. Top |
