Abstract

Purpose

The effect of time interval before pouring the impression and thickness of material on the dimensional accuracy of impressions made with Soft Liner, Visco-Gel, Impression paste, and Aquasil were determined. To check the validity of tissue conditioning materials to be used as functional impression material based on dimensional stability as compared with two commonly used impression materials.

Method

A master die with three posts was fabricated and a special tray was made on it. All impressions were made at room temperature, at 0hrs, 2hrs and 24 hrs. The dimensional changes of impressions at thickness 1.5mm and 3mm was also checked.

Result

It is preferable to pour the casts immediately or within “2” hrs. Soft Liner & Visco-Gel tissue conditioning materials can be used as impression materials. The time depended dimensional accuracy of Visco-Gel is better than that of soft liner. Results demonstrated that dimensional changes are significant in casts poured after storing the impressions for “0“ hrs &”2” hrs, but significant in casts poured after storing the impressions for “24 “ hrs.

Conclusion

Soft Liner & Visco-Gel tissue conditioning materials can be used as impression materials. It is preferable to pour the casts immediately or within “2” hrs. There is no significant difference between using a tray with a spacer of 1.5mm or 3mm for the tissue conditioner used as impression material, when poured immediately.
