Online published on 28 May, 2014. Abstract As dental implants continue to grow in use and popularity, clinicians are under a certain degree of pressure to guarantee patients the most reliable implantation process possible. Dental implants like natural teeth can be affected by microorganisms. The use of prophylactic antibiotics significantly improves short and long term implant survival. Also prior to oral surgical procedures patients with risk for developing infectious endocarditis and immuno compromised antibiotic prophylaxis is well recommended.
