Abstract

Bacterial plaque is primary etiological factor for various periodontal diseases. Despite one's best efforts mechanical aids fail to adequately remove plaque bio film which led of chemotherapeutic agents.

Aim

To evaluate the clinical effects of two commercially available herbal dentifrices on reduction of plaque and gingival inflammation in patients with chronic gingivitis.

Materials and Method

40 patients in age group of 18–35 years were selected and randomly divided into two groups Group A (forever bright tooth gel) and group B (Himalaya herbal dental cream).Clinical parameters i.e. Plaque index and Sulcus bleeding index was recorded on day 0(baseline), day 7 and day 30.

Data was compiled and analyzed by suitable statistical analysis.

Results

Significant reduction in plaque index and Sulcus bleeding index was seen in both groups. Group A with aloe vera containing dentifrice showed more significant reduction than Himalaya herbal dental cream.

Conclusion

Herbal based dentifrices are potent plaque inhibitors. These can serve as natural alternative for those who want to avoid artificial ingredients.
