Abstract

TMJ Disorder refers to a cluster of conditions characterized by pain in the TMJ or its surrounding tissues, functional limitations of mandible or clicking in the TMJ during motion. The main goal of treatment for TMD are to eliminate pain and joint noises and to restore normal mandibular functions1. There are number of therapeutic modalities for TMD includes conservative therapy, cognitive, physicaltherapy, behavioural therapy, pharmacological therapy and intraoral appliances. Various forms of physical therapy intervention, including ultrasound massage therapy (US) and Ozone oil therapy, can be potentially effective for management of TMJ pain disorder.5

In our study the Pain and muscle tenderness were recorded at the baseline visit, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th sitting visits of Ozone therapy and Ultrasonic massage therapy. Significant pain reduction and muscle tenderness in all masticatory muscles was observed in both Ozone oil and Ultrasonic massager therapy. According to our study it showed a significant decrease in pain and muscle tenderness was more in Ozone therapy. Therefore Ozone oil therapy can be used as a alternative treatment modality in TMJ pain disorders. Nonetheless, more studies are needed to confirm this.

Aim
