Abstract

Background

The present study was conducted to evaluate decalcification around Orthodontic Brackets bonded etched enamel using different topical agents.

Materials & Methods

The present study was conducted on 60 maxillary premolars which were divided into 2 groups of 30 teeth each. Group-I teeth were left unetched while Group-II teeth were etched. Laser Fluorescence Device (LFD) was used to measure the level of mineralization of the enamel surfaces around the brackets.

Results

Teeth were divided into 2 groups of 30 teeth each. Group-I teeth were left unetched while Group-II teeth were bleached and further divided into 4 Sub-Groups depending upon bleaching agents used. Sub Group-I was control, in Sub-Group-II Profluorid Varnish was used, in Sub-Group-III Enamel Pro Varnish was used and in Sub-Group-IV Ortho-Choice Ortho-Coat was used. There was significant difference in pre and post demineralization values in both Groups 1 & 2 and further in Sub-Groups I, II, III, IV (P< 0.05).

Conclusion

Authors found that Ortho-Choice Ortho-Coat, and Enamel Pro varnishes can be used successfully to reduce enamel demineralization around brackets bonded to either etched or non-etched enamel.
