Aim To compare the transverse and antero-posterior changes in both maxillary and dental arches using self-ligating brackets and conventional brackets. Methodology Two groups of 10 patients each were: GROUP A: conventionally ligated pre-adjusted edgewise appliance and GROUP B: self-ligating appliance. Dental casts of both the groups A and B were routinely made at T0, T1, T3, T6. Measurements were done in transverse plane from: inter canine, inter premolar, inter molar and in Antero-posterior plane from distal aspect of first permanent molar to the anterior limit of the arch. Results The mean difference in premolar width, inter molar width and anteroposterior width in upper and lower arch from pre-t/t (t0) to (t1), pre-t/t (t0) to (t3) and pre-t/t (t0) to (t6) was significantly more among self-ligating group in comparison to conventional group.
