Distribution of biomass in dry deciduous forest from Dhule District, Maharashtra, India

Abstract

Spectral modeling of above-ground biomass collected from stratified random sampling based on forest density maps from dry deciduous forest of Dhule district has been reported. The models were generated using LISS-III and MODIS data. Significant correlation of above-ground biomass (AGB) with NDVI was considered for mapping above-ground biomass and carbon. The study revealed that calculated AGB varied from 10.12 to 84.62 t/ha, while AGB estimated on the field (250 × 250 m) ranged from 8.75 to 27.75 t/ha. Statistically significant correlation between AGB biomass and Infra Red (IR) of MODIS was observed in the month of February (r = 0.661).
