Abstract

Six wild species of Vigna collected from North-Western Ghats of Maharashtra were analyzed for nutrient contents. On an average protein, reducing sugar, free amino acids ranged from 92±0.70 to 192.07±0.60,159.76 ±068 to 234.76 ±0.68 and 15.53 ±1.10 to 77.55 ±0.17 mg/g dry weights respectively. The anti-nutritional components such as Phenols and tannins were within the range of 0.223 ±0.43 to 0.388 ±0.36 % and 0.218 ±0.76 to 1.152 ±0.64 % respectively. The results indicated that the wild species of Vigna are promising sources of nutrients, which needs further studies for their exploitation as a source of food, feed or fodder.
