Online Published on 18 December, 2023. Abstract Polyphasic technique was used to assess the taxonomic position of a unique actinomycetes, which was isolated from the silt of Pedda Cheruvu Lake in Mahabubnagar, Telangana state, India. The morphological, biochemical, phylogenetic, and taxonomic traits indicated it as a member of the genus Streptomyces. The strain consistently belongs to a separate phylogenetic line together with Streptomyces barkulensis strains RC 1831 and JJ 116 with 96% identity according to a phylogenetic tree, based on its almost full 16S r RNA gene sequence (1500 base pairs). Based on physiological, morphological, and biochemical differences from its nearest phylogenetic neighbor, it is believed that strain represents a new strain of the genus Streptomyces, which has been given the name Streptomyces barkulensis SMV 09.
