Abstract Present investigation was undertaken to evaluate algal diversity and water quality status of four freshwater resources, two paddy fields in Thalakkulathur and two natural ponds in Kayanna, Kozhikode district, Kerala. The study was conducted for six months, from August 2022 to January 2023. The samples were collected according to standard procedures from various sites in the study area and physical and chemical parameters were analyzed. The observation and documentation of algae were done with the help of literature. Different algal species like Nostoc sp., Oscillatoria annae, Chrococcus sp., Anabaena Gloeocapsa of Cyanophyceae; Spirogyra sp, Chlorella sp, Oedogonium sp, Cosmarium, Staurastrum sp., Botryococcus braunii, Eudorina sp., Selenastrum, Gyrosigma sp., Scenedesmus; Euglena sp., Phacus Navicula, Gomphonema bohemicum, Amphora pediculus, Cymbella sp., Hantzschia amphioxus, Fragillaria capucina and Mishococcus confervicola were found to be present in water samples. Various diversity indices were worked out for ecological evaluation. Top Keywords Freshwater ecosystem, Natural ponds, Paddy fields, Kayanna, Thalakkulathur, Kerala. Top |
