Antibacterial activities of the plant extracts were assessed using Disc diffusion method, while antioxidant assay was measured using the DPPH Assay. In addition preliminary phytochemical screening and quantitative analysis of phenolics and flavonoids was also undertaken. Beetroot showed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, carbohydrates, phenols, tannins, glycosides, terpenoids and quinones. Beetroot contained higher iron as compared to that in Spinach. The solvent extracts of both plants showed antibacterial activities against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The % radical scavenging activity of Beetroot was better Spinach. Top Keywords Biological Activities, DPPH, E. coli, P. aeruginosa, Spinacia oleracea and Beta vulgaris. Top |
