Abstract

Present investigation deals with Ethnomedicinal information, macroscopic and microscopic characters, analysis of ash, dry matter, moisture content, powder behavior, fluorescence analysis and phytochemical analysis of the leaves of Wendlandia thyrsoidea (R and S.) belonging to family Rubiaceae. Ethnomedicinal information was collected from local rural people (Vaidus) from the villages of Kolhapur district of Maharashtra, India. Those are commonly used for the treatment of bone fracture and arthritis. Phytochemical tests of leaf extracts revealed presence of alkoloids, phenols, reducing sugars, flavones, tannins and xanthoproteins.. The Macro and microscopic characters, ash value, moisture content, dry matter, results of powder behavior, fluorescence analysis and phytochemical data collected herewith will be helpful for the standardization of this precious medicinal plant, an in addition any. Adulterants in the crude drug can also be easily identified.
