Abstract

The jaws and teeth of Piaractus brachypomus were in compress form with a terminal mouth. The snout was blunt in large individuals. The upper dentition consisted of a double row of molariform teeth in the upper jaw, plus two rows on the roof of the mouth. The lower jaw carried a single row of similar teeth plus an inner pair of conical teeth at the front of the mouth.
