Abstract

Some microorganisms utilize hydrocarbons as source of energy and carbon. These microorganisms are useful in the treatment of, hydrocarbon contaminated places, to get them eradicated and reduce pollution. During present work, an attempt was made to isolate and characterize different toluene degrading bacteria. Two isolates were selected for studying utilization of toluene. These isolates. were identified as Psuedomonas aeruginosa (HDB 1) and Bacillus subtilis (HDB 2), out of whivh. HDB 2 was more found to be more efficient in degradation of toluene.
