Antimicrobial potential of Embelia ribes seed extracts

Abstract

Embelia ribes is a medicinal plant belonging to the family Myrsinaceae, commonly known as ‘Vidanga’ in local language. Present study was undertaken on ethanol, methanol and acetone extracts of its dry fruits, wherein those were tested for antimicrobial activity. The results revealed strong antimicrobial activity of Embelia ribes against bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Proteus vulgaris, Micrococcus spp, Bacillus cereus and Klebsiella pneumoniae.
