Molecular identification of bacterial isolates through 16S RRNA gene sequencing and phylogenetic analysis Chandy Sneha Achamma, Swamy G. E. Mallikarjuna1, Sen Punam Department of Microbiology, PSG College of Arts & Science, Coimbatore-641014, Tamilnadu 1Department of Forest Pathology, Kerala Forest Research Institute, Peechi-680653, Kerala Online published on 26 March, 2024. Abstract Two bacterial isolates were obtained from rhizosphere soil of Chloris barbata. Genomic DNAwas extracted from each bacterial isolate and 16S rRNA was amplified through PCR using specific primers. Sequencing of the PCR products was carried out. Phylogenetic tree was constructed using the neighbor joining method. The sequence of isolate 1 showed 98.33% similarity with Staphylococcus hominis strain 309-4 while that of isolate 2 showed 98.42% similarity with Bacillus proteolyticus strain H8.
