Performance of some promising rice varieties in late planted conditions Subudhi H.N., Meher J., Behera K.S. Central Rice Research Institute, Cuttack-753006 Online published on 22 February, 2013. Abstract Fifty four promising rice varieties of Eastern India were evaluated for late planting conditions. It is revealed from the study that there is severe infestation of leaf folder and Yellow stem borer in the crop, which resulted the crop loss and decrease in the grain yield. Yellow stemborer damage is highest in varieties like Satabdi (43.3), followed by Jogesh (32.1), Suphala (31.5), Sankar(30.0) showing susceptible reaction and lowest in Bhanja (2.1), Rajeswari(2.4), Jajati (2.2) Jagabandhu(1.0) Shravani(3.1) Uphar (1.1) Mahanadi (2.0) Ramachandi(1.0) Rambha(2.6), Mahalaxmi(2.3) showing resistant reaction. Similarly the leaf folder damage is highest in the varieties Tapaswini(38.5) Lalat(25.0), Geetanjali(14.0) Khandagiri(14.0), Pusa 44(11.0), and lowest in Jagabandhu(4.0). Most of the varieties showed moderate tolerance (5–10% damage). The yield is highest in Pratikhya (4020kg/ha) followed by Pusa 44 (4150kg/ha) Samanta (3960) Gouri(3690kg/ha) in irrigated ecology. The yield is highest in Mahalaxmi(5940kg/ha) followed by Rambha(4850kg/ha), Savitri (4800kg/ha), Urbasi(4610kg/ha) and lowest in Sankar(990kg/ha), Subhdra (1120kg/ha), Parijat(1320kg/ha), Suphala (1350kg/ha). So the varieties like Mahalaxmi, Rambha,Savitri and Urbasi should be popularized in lowland areas and the varieties like Pratikhya, Pusa -44, Samanta, Gouri should be popularized in irrigated areas in late planted conditions.
