Abstract The importance of effective job supervision in improving productivity in the Nigerian education sector cannot be over emphasised. This is against the background that the Nigerian educational system used to be the pride of the African continent. Along the trend of time, something went wrong that the current educational system and sector are faced with a lot of challenges and constraints. It is against this premise that this article examines improving the Nigerian educational sector through effective job supervision, a managerial function of ensuring that things are done as required. The qualitative methodology was adopted in this article. The article concluded that the structures, systems and processes of job supervision in the educational sector have to be examined and aligned with the aim of achieving the goals for which such organisations have been established. The article recommended that job supervision should be employee-centred in addition to being task-centred and that employees should be more serious with their jobs, be task-minded and result-oriented in doing the jobs for which they have been employed.
