Abstract

The Indian Railways, known for its connectivity and sheer magnitude, provides travel to millions of passengers daily, emphasizing the utmost importance of passenger safety. This qualitative study delves into the unknown side of railway operations, focusing on the lived experiences of Loco Pilots who encounter human accidents during their duty. It offers crucial insights into an often-overlooked aspect of this industry, i.e., the physical, social, psychological, and emotional toll on Loco Pilots. These accidents, which result in severe injuries or fatalities, pose unique challenges for these frontline railway personnel who can be life-long impacted. It, therefore, suggests various proactive approaches to safeguarding the mental health of Loco Pilots, thus enhancing the overall safety and effectiveness of the Indian Railways.
