The Impact of Professional Qualification on the Performance of Secondary School Teachers Trained Through Distance Mode in Pakistan

Abstract

This study attempts to differentiate between the performances of (M.Ed) and (B.Ed) professional qualifications of teachers trained through distance and teaching at secondary level schools in Pakistan. For this purpose 100 teachers were selected who had got their professional qualifications M.Ed from Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) and were working under Federal Government Educational Institutions (FGEI), and 100 teachers were selected who had got their professional qualifications B.Ed from Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) and were working under Federal Government Educational Institutions (FGEI). The performance of these selected teachers was measured and compared with the help of percentage of their results of annual sessions of 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2009. Mean score and t-test was applied to find out the difference in the performances of both kinds of teachers. The findings of study showed that the performance of the M.Ed qualified teachers was better than the performance of the B.Ed teachers in all courses of secondary level. The recommendations of the study were: (1) special allowance and extra-increments should be given on the higher professional so that teachers can work with full concentration, (2) there should be repaid promotion of the teachers after completing the M.Ed or higher degree of professional level, (3) there should be continue professional development of teachers to achieve the best performance and in this regard distance mode of learning should be adopted in Pakistan, and (4) modern age is the age of practicality and the proportionate of practical work and duration of workshops may be increased in M.Ed program of Allama Iqbal Open University.
