A report on anaemia in male Rathi calves Kataria AK, Kataria N College of Veterinary and Animal Science, Rajasthan Agricultural University, Bikaner-334001, (Rajasthan) Abstract Thirty five male Rathi calves were screened to determine total erythrocyte counts (TEC), haemoglobin (Hb), packed cell volume (PCV), differential leucocyte count (DLC) i.e. neutrophils, lymphocytes, monocytes, eosinophils and basophils, Mean corpuscular volume (MCV), Mean corpuscular haemoglobin (MCH), Mean corpuscular haemoglobin concentration (MCHC) and plasma proteins. The animals were divided into two categories on the basis of feeding and management practices. The mean values in the well fed calves were 7.1±0.81 X 106/μl, 38.09±2.23%, 11.12±1.21g/dl, 53.09±4.12fl, 15.71±1.12pg, 28.94±3.12g/dl, 28.91±1.12%, 62.23±3.10%, 5.10±0.99%, 3.82±0.71%, 1.00±0.001%, 7.21±0.91g/dl, respectively. In the present study the mean values of TEC, PCV and Hb in the category II were significantly (p < 0.05) lower than the respective values in category I. However, no significant (P > 0.05) difference was observed between two categories for the mean values of MCV, MCH and MCHC. Top |
