Abstract

India is said to be one of the most depressed country in the world. Here we still use the term “Paagal” for those who are under the influence of mental problems. It is taken as the stigma in our country even in this century which is known as century of science and technology. It is shocking to know that 9.8 million adolescents (13-17 yeas) are in the grip of depression or other psychological problems. As revealed by the surveys, every sixth person globally experiences depression or other mental health problems. We don’t have the sufficient resources to serve our people from the mental health point of view. The female youngsters and the woman group as a whole are more badly affected from this problem. Universally, depression is one of the main sources of sickness and handicap among young people and also a major cause of suicide. So, keeping in view the adverse effects of depression on human health, and wellbeing, this paper attempts to underline the warning symptoms of depression among the adolescents, prevalence of depression, suggest the suitable strategies to cope with this challenging health problem for enhancing quality of life and well-being of our people.
