Abstract The present study reports the development and psychometric properties of the Hindi version of the newly developed ‘scale for attitude towards economic development’. Initially 47 items (for 6 domains i.e., infrastructure, health services, literacy, per capita income, environmental issues and social inclusion) were written and on the basis of reliability analysis, some psychometrically poor items were deleted, and finally only 40 items were included in scale. After that, through Factor analysis, 13 items were retained and classified in three components, named as responsibility for resource conservation, fulfillment of fundamental needs and equality in public policies. The psychometric properties of the scale for attitude towards economic development were evaluated on a sample of 294 participants. Psychometrically adequate items were retained in final scale, whereas psychometrically poor items were removed. Reliability of the scale was found to be high for all three components of attitude towards economic development (alpha =0 .80 for component 1, alpha=0 .74 for component 2 and 0.67 for component 3). Overall, the findings revealed that this newly developed scale for attitude towards economic development is a reliable and valid tool to measure the attitude towards economic development of people of society.
