Abstract

A 10 kA High Temperature Superconducting (HTS) current Lead has been designed and currently under indigenous development for the first time to reduce the refrigeration power and hence the operation cost. The lead is designed to operate with liguid nitrogen. The HTS part of 10 kA lead consists of 62 stacks cylindrically arranged on a stainless steel tube. Each stack is composed of two Di-BSCCO tapes soldered throughout the length. The conventional part is a heat exchanger made of braided cable. The detailed description of the design of the lead is presented in this paper.
