Abstract Objective Verify the contribution of the dental trauma indexes use and the dental prosthesis use in epidemiological surveys for the use in the forensic practice. Method A cross sectional epidemiological survey was done in the City of São Bernardo do Campo, SP, Brazil. The sample constituted of 223 adults aged between 35 and 44, users of the City Health Care System. The method of the dental examination followed the World Health Organization's standards and the indexes of dental trauma, the use of dental prosthesis and the DMFT were collected. The data was analyzed in the STATA 10 software. The significance level used was of 5%. Result Participated of the study 223 adults aged between 35 and 44, being 50 (22.42%) man and 173 (77.58% women). The Kappa test presented results higher than 0.800 to all the variables studied to both the intra and inter examiners analysis. In relation to the dentition characteristics, 148 (66.37%) were toothed, 68 (30.49%) partially toothed and 7 (3.14% totally toothless). No differences were verified between the sexes and the sides analyzed. The dental loss and the prosthetic situation, present the same findings. In relation to the dental trauma, 22 traumas were registered in 14 people, with the proposed index each trauma was individualized with its own code. For the dental diversity the methods proposed were more accurate and presented higher values of the diversity indexes. Conclusion The epidemiological indexes proposed contributed to the study of the bite marks and of the dental diversity. Top Keywords Forensic Dentistry, Bite Marks, Tooth Characteristics. Top |
