Depression among College Girls Yasmin Zeba Research Scholar, Department of Psychology, Magadh University, Bodh-Gaya Online published on 24 October, 2018. Abstract The study was conducted on a sample of 200 College Girls to examine the causes of emotional problems. The hypotheses were that the large size and small size, joint family and nuclear family, democratic and authoritarian PCR family, FGO and PGO would differ significantly on depression. The hypotheses also focused on whether the High Depression Groups (HDG) and Low Depression Group (LDG) would differ significantly on negligence in satisfaction of basic needs. The sample comprises 200 undergraduate girls selected random cum-purposefully from different colleges of Gaya town. The PDS, Manifest Depression Inventory (MDI), and Akhtar's PCR were administered to the girls students. The data were primarily treated by t test. Further the Chi-square was computed. Significant means differences between large size family(LSF) and small size Family, joint family type(JFT) and nuclear family Type(NFT), democratic Family(DF) and authoritarian family (AF) were found, forbidden the girls for outing (FGO) and permission for outing (PFO) groups differ significantly with respect to their mean scores of depression, further a significant chi-square difference was found between HDG and LDG. The results support the given hypotheses. The study is in agreement with the findings of several other investigators. Implications of the study are indicated for the well-being of girls coming from different backgrounds.
