Abstract The study investigated the difference in academic stress and emotional stability of adolescent students of Amritsar city with respect to gender and locale. 200 students participated in this study. Data was collected using Bisht Battery of Stress Scale and Emotional Stability Test for Children, t-test statistical analysis was utilized to process the data of the hypotheses tested while ‘r’ was calculated to find out the relationship between two variables. Results of the findings indicated no significant difference between academic stress (academic frustration, academic conflict and academic anxiety) with respect to gender but academic pressure showed significant difference between boys and girls. Girl participants are found to be more under academic pressure as compared to boys. Results also indicated no significant difference between academic stress of adolescent students (academic frustration, academic conflict, academic pressure and academic anxiety) with respect to locale. Study also reveals that gender does not influence emotional stability of adolescent students but significant results are found with respect to locale. Urban area adolescent students are more emotionally stable as compared to their counterparts. It is also observed that there exists no significant relationship between four dimensions of academic stress and emotional stability.
