Abstract

Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) Ankylosis involves fusion of the mandibular condyle to the base of the skull. It is the major clinical problem that affects many patients suffering from facial trauma, infection or systemic disease. The treatment of TMJ Ankylosis poses a significant challenge because of the technical difficulty and a high incidence of recurrence. A case of 12 year old male reported to the Department of Oral Medicine and Maxillofacial Radiology of D.J College of Dental Sciences and Research, Modinagar (U.P) with the chief complaint of pain and difficulty in mouth opening since 5 to 6 years. On examination there were facial disfigurement, significant reduction in mouth opening, difficulties in feeding, breathing and general interference with physical and mental development is presented. The wide ranges of manifestations present in this case exceed the typical picture of Bilateral TMJ Ankylosis.
