Abstract

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are defined as diseases of long duration, and are generally slow in progression. NCDs kill more than 36 million people each year. Nearly 80% of NCD deaths-29 millionoccur in low-and middle-income countries. They share four risk factors: tobacco use, physical inactivity, the harmful use of alcohol and unhealthy diets. This study aims on NCDs and its risk factors with special focus on CVDs and Diabetes among the employees of aviation sector at NSCBI Airport, Kolkata. Obesity, Hypertension, Diabetes and Metabolic syndrome are predominant among the employees in the age group of 35 and above. Four risk factors such as tobacco use, physical inactivity, the harmful use of alcohol and unhealthy diet were found predominant among the employees. There is an urgent need of health awareness and health promotion activities at employee level and workplace level with special focus on health diet, physical activities and behavioual risk factors.
