Online published on 31 March, 2020. Abstract Introduction Verbal autopsy is a method, used to ascertain the cause of death based on an interview with caregivers or family members. In India, first autopsy was performed by Edward Buckley on 10th August 1714 in Madras. Material and Method A thorough study was made from the available online resources and books. Result It is worth mentioning that in spite of the advancements and developments in this field, still the users thrive on old standards and are unaware of the newer method of autopsy. Conclusion In cases, where the corpse is not available, Verbal autopsy is the only way of ascertaining the cause of death.
