Various researchers have said that formocresol is effective in fixing the pulpal tissue, and it also has an impact on the enzymes and connective tissue surrounding the apices of the treated teeth. Hence, this paper reviews the history, sources, pharmacokinetics of formaldehyde and cresol, carcinogenicity, mutagenicity, clinical success and controversies regarding the safety of formocresol as medicament.
