Abstract This study reports the cytological and histopathological findings of cutaneous histiocytoma associated with fungal infection in a three years old male Persian cat. Raised growths were noticed on head and back region. Cytological examination of Giem-sa-stained smears revealed numerous round cells in clusters or individually with abundant light basophilic cytoplasm, round to oval eccentric nuclei with fine/stippled chromatin material, indistinct nucleoli and few mitotic figures. Numerous lymphocytes along with neutrophils, macrophages, multinucleated giant cells and fibroblasts were also observed. Based on these features, presumptive diagnosis of histiocytoma was made. Histopathological examination revealed the features of histiocytoma along with pyogranulomas characterized by caseative necrosis in centre, surrounded by cellular zone of neutrophils, lymphocytes, macrophages, epithelioid cells and few giant cells. Some of the granulomas were surrounded by fibrous tissue. On Gomori’s methenamine silver staining, an abundance of black colour stained fungal hyphae and fungal elements were observed in centre of pyogranulomatous lesions. Based on cytological and histopathological findings, this case was diagnosed as cutaneous histio-cytoma associated with fungal infection.
