Abstract An adult boar was presented for post-mortem examination with history of sudden death. Necropsy examination revealed extremely distended, atonic urinary bladder with 4-5 litres of blood tinged urine and numerous calculi. Other findings included hydroureter and extensive subcapsular haemorrhages in kidneys. Microscopic analysis of calculi revealed presence of crystals of mixed chemical nature. Histopathological analysis of the kidney tissues revealed dilatation of bowman’s space, degeneration of glomerular tuft, dilatation of tubular lumen with flattened atrophic epithelium and thickened fibrosed interstitium. On staining with modified Masson’s trichrome method it was found that there was collagen proliferation in the interstitium. On staining with PAS method it was found that basement membrane of tubules and mesangium in glomerular tuft were affected. It was concluded that the boar was suffering from hydronephrosis due to urolithiasis. Top Keywords Boar, Hydronephrosis, Urolithiasis. Top |
