Abstract The present work was based on retrospective analysis of necropsy based diagnosis of 5327 poultry carcasses received over the period of ten years (January 2008 to December 2017) in the Department of Veterinary Pathology, LUVAS, Hisar to study the mortality pattern among chicken of this region. Data was analyzed on the basis of age and disease condition in broiler and layers. Age wise maximum mortality was observed in 1-6 wks age group (38.7%) followed by adult (23.46%), 0-1 wks (18.97 %), 6-12 wks (11.34%) and 12-24 wks (7.5%) age group indicating 7-42 days as the most susceptible period. Main pathological conditions observed in chicken were omphalitis (17.94%) followed by hepatitis (10.2%), pneumonia (8.5%), ascites (7%), colisepticemia ( 6.98%), enteritis (6.7%), fatty liver (6.4%), neoplastic disease as MD/LL (3%), egg peritonitis (1.7%), coccidiosis (1.2%), heat stroke (1%) and other conditions (2.57%) such as rickets, oophoritis, egg bound, gout, emaciation and ascaridiasis which were below 1% each. Both broilers and layers were found to be affected mainly with omphalitis, hepatitis and pneumonia highlighting the importance of proper managemental conditions at the farms.
