Abstract

In the present case study, a spontaneous hepatic lipidosis was observed in the 5-year old female laboratory New Zealand White rabbit. A history of asymptomatic animal having signs of anorexia, unresponsive and died within a short span. Further study of clinical pathological findings, showed increased levels of serum hepatic enzymes with no alteration of BUN and creatinine profile values. Systemic necropsy showed pale yellow discolouration of liver, lung oedema and pale discolouration of other vital organs. Histological analysis was done for vital organs. Microscopic examination revealed moderate infiltration of fatty changes with degeneration in liver, kidney and heart. Lung exhibited oedema with pneumonic changes. A growth of mixed enterobacteria was found in heart blood and lung samples culture. Based on gross morphological changes and histopathological findings the present case was diagnosed as hepatic lipidosis.
