Online Published on 20 June, 2023. Abstract The present study describes an outbreak of ‘late onset’ classical swine fever (CSF) in an organized pig farm associated with congenital tremors in piglets. Congenital tremors was observed in twelve piglets, while adults appeared normal. Farm had a history of vaccination against classical swine fever virus (CSFV). Systematic postmortem examination revealed petechiae to ecchymotic haemorrhages in the skin, lymph nodes, duodenum and ileo-caecal valve. Spleen was enlarged and congested. Meninges revealed congestion of piamater. Microscopically, cerebral cortex showed perivascular cuffing with lymphocytes and formation of microglial nodules. Tissue samples were confirmed for CSFV of p120 gene using RT-PCR. This report records the outbreak of persistently infected (PI) ‘late onset’ CSF in piglets with congenital tremors in an organised farm at Thanjavur district in Tamil Nadu, India under natural condition.
