Abstract The present study was conducted with objectives to study incidence and to differentially diagnose two important respiratory diseases of poultry viz., infectious bronchitis (IB) and chronic respiratory disease (CRD) using immunohistochemistry (IHC). A total of 59 samples from birds suspected for respiratory ailments such as IB and CRD from various farms in Ludhiana and the other districts of Punjab were investigated. Out of a total samples one sample of IB and three samples of CRD were found positive by IHC. Before doing IHC they were first differentiated on gross examination and histopathology. IB antigen was detected in the cytoplasm of affected tracheal epithelial cells and Mycoplasma gallisepticum antigens in the cells lining the lumen of the parabronchi. Thus the present study helps to account the occurrence of these two poultry respiratory diseases in Punjab. And IHC proves a reliable technique to confirm the cases of IB and CRD. In this study we find that trachea act as an organ of choice for demonstrating IBV antigen and lung can act as an organ of choice for diagnosis of CRD.
