Prof. T.L. Som (1937-2023) Passes Away

Prof. Tripti Lal Som (86) was born on 20th August, 1937 at Noakhali District of East Bengal (now Bangladesh) and later migrated to Kolkata, West Bengal. He obtained BVSc & AH degree with distinction from Bengal Veterinary College, Calcutta University in 1959. He joined the Government of West Bengal as a Veterinary Surgeon in 1961. Subsequently, he worked as Research Assistant in the State Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory at Burdwan for four years after which he was deputed to Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Bareilly, UP for doing Post Graduate Diploma in Preventive Veterinary Medicine (NDPVM) in 1967. He worked as Veterinary Pathologist at Raymond Research Laboratory, Kolkata. Later he received MVSc degree in Veterinary Pathology (First Class) from Bidhan Chandra Kishi Viswavidyalaya, Nadia, West Bengal. Then he joined as Lecturer in 1974 at Bengal Veterinary College, Kolkata. He obtained his PhD degree in Veterinary Pathology discipline from Calcutta University in 1985. He has guided a number of students for their Master’s and Doctoral degree programmes.

He worked as Lecturer, Reader and Head of the Department of Pathology up to 2001. He has published more than 80 research papers in different National and International journals. Dr Som has also published several popular scientific articles in different newspapers. Dr Som was nominated as judge of Dr Ganti A. Sastri Award Committee by Indian Veterinary Association. He was appointed as expert by the different Agriculture Universities for the examination in Masters students and recruitment of scientists. He was also appointed as expert for the Agriculture Scientist Recruitment Board of ICAR, Indian Veterinary Research Institute and Union Public Service Commission. He was member of different professional societies-like Indian Science Congress, Indian Association of Veterinary Pathologists and Indian Medical Laboratory Technologist Forum. Dr Som was active Executive Committee member of IAVP. He became the patron of Indian Association of Veterinary Pathologists. He passed away on 15th January, 2023 at the age of 86 years. Dr Som is survived by his wife and two children. The IAVP extends heartfelt condolences to bereaved family for their unimaginable loss and prays Almighty God for eternal peace to departed soul.

Dr V. Titus George (1945-2023) Passes Away

Dr V. Titus George, Professor, Department of Veterinary Pathology was born on 07.11.1945. He has completed his BVSc on 1967. He completed MVSc on 1982 with research title on “Studies on Jaundice in Canines” and PhD on 1988 with research title on “Studies on DDT toxicity in poultry”. He joined as Veterinary Assistant Surgeon in Animal Husbandry Department, Government of Tamil Nadu from 1969 to 1989. He joined as Assistant Professor on 1990 in Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University. He has guided 3 PhD and 5 PG students. He was specialized in clinical pathology. He worked as Warden Madras Veterinary College Hostel on 2004-05. He retired on 30.11.2005. He worked as Editor of the Indian Veterinary Journal from 2005 to 2019. He was soft spoken, calm and friendly with others. He died on 04.03.2023.
