Floral Biology and Seed Germination in Nepenthes1 Rao A. N, Bee Wee Ban 1Contribution from Botany Department, University of Singapore, Singapore 10. Abstract Three species of Nepenthes, JV. ampullario, JV. gracilis and JV. taffletiana that occur commonly in Singapore were studied. The structure of the inflorescence, number of seeds per fruit, period involved between pollination and fruit dehiscence were determined. The seeds were sown in pots and the seedling development is traced. The heteroblastic condition noticed in these species, the structural variations between juvenile and mature leaves are explained. After discussing the observations with reference to relevant literature the future work that may be undertaken on morphogenesis of pitchers in Nepenthes is outlined. Top | |
