Comparison of Different Herbicides and their Effect on Growth, Yield and Control of Weeds in Maize* Sidhu M. S.**, Research Assistant, Kumar Vijay**, Associate Professor, Gill G. S.***, Chief Agronomist **Deptt. of Agronomy, HAU, Hissar ***IFFCO, New Delhi *Conribution from Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana. Abstract Weeds offered a significant competition to maize as unweeded plots produced 40 per cent lesi yield as compared to weed-free plots. Amongst the herbicides, atrazine at 1.5 kg a i/ha proved equally effective as two hand weedings on a loamy sand soil, however, its higher dose (2.0 kg a i/haj gave more effective weed control and higher yields on a sandy loam soil. 2,4-D as pre plus post emergence treatment failed to give satisfactory control of weeds. Weeds removed 61.6 kg N/ha from unweeded plots. This loss was minimized to 26.7 kg in plot of atrazine + simazine each at 05 kg a i/ha. Various weed control treatmants did not show any adverse effect on the succeeding wheat crop. Top | |
