Abstract

The herbicides viz. Tok E-25 at 1.5 kg ai/ha, Lasso at 1.0 kg ai/ha both as pre-emergence and Treflan at 1.0 kg ai/ha and Sirmate at 6L/ha both as pre-planting were tried alongwith one hoeing each at 30 and 45 days, two hoeings at 30 and 45 days after sowing, weed free and weedy check treatments for the control of weeds in gram (Cicer arietinum L.) and peas (Pisum sativum L.) during the years 1971–72 and 1972–73. As regards the cultural treaments, weed free gave the higheest yield of gram and peas which was followed by two hoeings. The lowest yield was recorded in the weedy check treatment which was almost half than that of weed free treatment. Among the herbicides tried, Tok E-25 gave the highest yield in case of gram and peas but it was significantly higher in peas only when compared to other herbicides used. Similarly the dry matter production of weeds was minimum under weed free and Tok E-25 treatments, where as it was maximum under weedy check treatment.
