R. I., New Delhi-12 *Part of the Ph. D. work of the first author, Abstract Pot culture studies conducted at Agronomy Division, I. A. R. I., New-Delhi during 1969–70 & 1970–71 on some food and fodder crops> and which are supposed to be susceptible to herbicidal rates of simazine, clearly revealed that sub-herbicidal rates (1/16, 1/8 and 1/4 kg/ha) of simazine improved the dry matter production due to its stimulatory effect and also increased the total protein in the crop plants was evidenced due to the increase in nitrate-nitrogen absorption and the activity of nitrate reductase enzymes.
