Abstract

Otitis in twenty dogs was clinically characterized by head shaking, ear scratching, pain on manipulation at ear base and foul aural discharges. Cytological and cultural examinations of ear swabs confirmed concurrent infection of Malassezia pachydermatis and Staphyloccocus aureus. The dogs were treated with cleaning of ear canals with solution containing Boric acid 2% and Acetic acid 2% daily for 7 days, Meloxicam for first 3-5 days, Cefpodoxime proxetil orally once daily for two weeks and Ketoconazole for 10 days. The treatment efficacy was 95% with uneventful recovery leading to ceasing of exudates, absence of pain, no odour and almost no head shaking at the end of two weeks therapy.
